Day 54 - Anemone

Day 54 - Anemone

They get their name from 'anemos', the Greek word for Wind. These are often called Windflowers.

It is pronounced a-nem-o-nee.

Legend has it that the Greek goddess, Aphrodite's tears gave life to Anemones as she wept for the death of the god Adonis.

They are linked to anticipation & are thought to close their petals when rain is on its way.

Some myths claim that fairies make their beds under the petals of Anemones after sunset.

They are available in shades of pink, white, purple, lilac & red.

Wedding of Georgina & Tom 9th April

Today was the Wedding of Georgina & Tom. Georgina has been a customer for awhile so it was so lovely when she asked me to do her Wedding flowers.

Georgina is partially sighted so she had decided on a bright theme of a mixture of spring flowers.

The Bridesmaids & Ushers are all going to be wearing bright colours so we matched their flower to what they were wearing.

Buttonholes of a white Rose with either an Iris, Tulip, Daffodil, Anemone & Muscari.

The Pageboy wore a small Buttonhole of white spray Roses & a ladies Buttonhole of a white mini Gerbera.

Georgina's adult Bridesmaid was wearing purple so she wore a white mini Gerbera with purple Iris.

One of the Flower Girls wore cerise pink so she carried a basket of white mini Gerberas with cerise pink Tulips. The handle of the basket was covered with cerise pink ribbon to match.

The other Flower Girl wore red so she had a basket of white mini Gerbera with red Anemones. The handle was covered with red ribbon to match.

All the Bridesmaids flowers.

The stems were bound with bright yellow ribbon.

Georgina's Mum opted for a wrist corsage of a mini white Gerbera with greenery.

Georgina's hand-tied bouquet of white mini Gerberas, red Anemones, blue Muscari, purple Iris, cerise pink Tulips, yellow Daffodils with Alchemilla Mollis & greenery.

The stems were bound with Ivory ribbon.

Bride & Bridesmaid bouquets.

All packed & ready to go!

On the tables at the Queens Head in Belton, Georgina chose small cubed glass Vases with a small hand-tied of the flowers from the Wedding theme.

The colours matched perfectly with the decorations that Georgina & Tom had put up.

Their bright coloured Cake was decorated with sweets mmmmm...

Huge congratulations to Georgina & Tom - such a cute couple! x

April Fools Day Wedding

1st April & it was my first Wedding of the year.
I never asked Sandra if she really was getting married today or if it was an April Fools! The weather was typical for April - rainy but I think it managed to stay dry for them to walk from the Town Hall to the Tennis Club.
I did the flowers for Sandra's Son last year so it was a great pleasure to be able to do hers now.

Male Buttonholes of Thistles, Rosemary & Eucalyptus.

Spring Corsage of lilac Anemone, Sol'Dor Daffodils, orange Tulips, Pussy Willow, Rosemary & Eucalyptus finished with a Tartan bow as Sandra's Mum is from Scotland.

Lilac Freesia Corsage with Rosemary & Eucalyptus finished with an Ivory bow.

Corsage of Lily of the Valley, Rosemay & Eucaulyptus finished with an Ivory bow.

Bridesmaid's Bouquets of white Anemones, Thistles, Rosemary & Eucalyptus finished with Ivory ribbon.

Sandra's Hand-tied Bouquet of white Anemones, Thistles, lime Viburnum, Rosemary, Fountain Grass & Eucalyptus finished with Ivory ribbon.

All three Bouquets boxed & waiting to go.

Wedding of Helen Cross 6th December 2009

Today was the Wedding of Helen, I had been looking forward to doing her Wedding for a long time as the coloured combination & the choice of flowers were fab!
The Church ceremony was at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Thorpe Hill, I didn't even know this Church was there, just tucked away behind some trees.
The Reception was then at Quorn Country Hotel so we had the job of moving Pedestals from the Church to the Hotel after the Ceremony.

The Groom's Buttonhole of a champagne coloured Rose with a Scabious Seed Head, Rosemary, Sprue & varigated Ivy leaves.

The Bridesmaid's Bouquets of champagne coloured Roses with Spruce & Rosemary running through the Roses. The stems were bound with silver coloured ribbon.

Helen's Bouquet of Champagne & Lilac coloured Roses, white Hellebores, Anemones, Scaboius Seed Heads & herbs. I also used Spruce for the Greenery as it was December.

Pedestals of white Amaryllis, Anemones, Hellebores, Roses, Mollucella & Greenery.

The lady at the Church who arranges the flowers had put an Amaryllis at the top of the steps & it matched perfectly with the flowers in the Pedestals - good guess there!

Here they come!

The Bride & Groom looking fab! Can't really see the flowers very clearly but I couldn't get any closer.
